Ever since Abba split 35 years ago Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog have repeatedly refused to reunite. But now fans all over the world might finally get the chance to see the Swedish megastars on stage again if, as sources suggest, Björn and Benny create a new show featuring the four as holograms.

Reviewing videos from Abba's tours

According to an insider, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson are planning to base the holographic show on videos from Abba’s world tours in 1977 and 1979, and the pair are currently reviewing the material from the shows.

”It’s all in the early stages at the moment” claims our source, who is close to the discussions.

Benny and Björn have also apparently spoken to key individuals who could help them to produce the show - including Simon Fuller, the mastermind behind the Spice Girls and TV shows ”Pop Idol” and ”So You Think You Can Dance”.

The duo is also said to have reached out to key individuals to make the show reality.

”Holograms on stage is not a new concept”, adds the insider. ”The technology is already availible and it has previously been used for shows featuring stars like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra”.

Benny and Björn were recently caught on camera with Fuller at the Mandalay Bay luxury resort in Las Vegas, where they were backstage with the cast of Cirque de Soleil’s show ”Michael Jackson One”. The production features the renowned troupe’s dancers and acrobats performing with spectacular visual effects to Jackson’s hits.

”Almost unlimited things you can do”

The picture of the trio was posted on Instagram by Per Sundin, CEO of Universal Music Sweden - who has dubbed the rumoured plans as ”pure speculation”.

”There are discussions about all sorts of things” he said in response. ”Abba is one of our most important brands and artists of all time. We went on a field trip to Los Angeles to meet lots of interesting people and look into lots of different things. There are almost unlimited things you can do. It’s really exciting, and we’ll see what happens - but there are no concrete plans right now.”

We have reached out to Benny's and Björn's spokesperson but the duo has declined further comments.
